Artist: Mr. Zipp

Album: Dr. Demento's Basement Tapes No. 4

Appears On (Mixes): Hobotic Mixed CDs Volumes 1-5; Pray For My TV Show

Song Notes: Pray For My TV Show: Unfortunately, I've lost the liner notes that came with this volume of the Basement Tapes, so I don't know what record this was originally from, and there is no info on Mr. Zipp online, according to Google. So, if anyone knows anything about them, that would be great. All I remember reading, and this could be wrong, is that while a lot of their songs and comedy was apolitical (as is this one), some of it had a conservative bent (sort of a "See, Conservatives Can Be Funny Too" type thing, except Mr. Zipp actually WAS/IS, depending if they're still around). Anyway, back when I had a college radio show on K103, I used to play this song every single week. Now that I've got another show that's not on college radio, I don't spin it as much anymore, but, you know, every once in a blue moon. It's a fun one, anyway, and it's got some hilarious lines. And, hey, you've got to love any song that starts with a goddawful shriek. Oh yeah—apparently this was originally the second half of a longer piece, but apparently everyone liked this half better, and it became the "hit". Um, like I said, if anyone else remembers anything else about this song, or about Mr. Zipp in general, that'd be awesome, and I'd love to hear it. -Rev. Syung Myung Me
