[edit] Band Biography
One of the most influential funk and soul bands, Sly & The Family Stone was racked by difficulties, mostly stemming from the unreliable/unhinged nature of their frontman Sly Stone, and his heavy drug use and huge ego. Sly Stone was and contineus to be incredibly talented, however, so perhaps his ego was justified. It's often said that there are two main periods of African-American Pop Music -- before Sly Stone and after Sly Stone. Though the band's dissolved a few times and reformed, a form is currently still together, and Sly Stone himself is still sometiimes in the public eye.
