In music, a supergroup is a musical group that consists of members that have had successful solo careers or are part of other groups or are well known in other musical professions.
Supergroups can be side projects of other groups or musicians, while other times a supergroup can become the primary project of the members' careers. Other times, a supergroup may be a one-off gathering of a group of well-known musicians (like in the case of The Dirty Mac.) Also, simply two or more well-known artists collaborating together can qualify as a supergroup.
Supergroups can be formed to support charity or some kind of cause, as in the case of USA For Africa and Hear 'n Aid.
