Sutherland Brothers was a band name of the brothers Sutherland, who had success in the mid- 70 . The Scots are famous for their summer hit in Netherlands Arms of Mary, but their most sold song is Sailing under more sung by Rod Stewart who had a worldwide hit with it. A completely different version of Sailing appeared on the albumLong Misty Days of Robin Trower.

The brothers Sutherland got the music with the spoon; their father was a musician in the band The Melody Makers and the albums by Benny Goodman and Gene Krupa are regularly on the turntable. Later, as the family in England, touch Gavin impressed by Eddie Cochran and The Shadows. Then it goes through The Beatles and Bob Dylan to Van Morrison. Gavin's example remained John Lennon.

Boots the duo under the name of A New Generation in 1968, in England they had local success with the single " Smokie Blues Away, of which the melody was based on the ninth Symphony by Antonín Dvořák.Gavin came as composer via via in contact with an employee of Apple Records , which are brought to the attention of music Muff Winwood, producer at Island Records. It resulted in a hit in 1972 The Pie, which appeared under the name The Sutherland Brothers Band. The music was rock folkachtige . The group released 4 albums on Island. The two musicians the band switched to their repertoire more Quiver in the rock to expand. From then on the albums appeared under the name Sutherland Brothers and Quiver, sometimes Sutherland Bros and Quiver or under the abbreviation SB & q. Earlier they tried still the name Quiverland and Brothers.

During the years disappeared more and more members of Quiver to elsewhere. The last album was actually produced without Quiver-members. Great success followed only when the band switched to CBS, eventually sorting in the hit Arm of Mary, which later in a cover version was also a hit of Chiliwack from Canada. Nevertheless, this success came in 1979 put an end to the band, the punk movement made the music of the brothers Sutherland in their eyes unnecessary. From the years 90 published the albums on compact discs, but the last only appeared in 2008 on a retro platenlabel.
