Tammy Wynette, actually Virginia Wynette Pugh (Itawamba CountyMississippi5 may 1942 – NashvilleTennesseeapril 6, 1998), was an American country-singer, and she is also known as the "First Lady of Country Music" called. She is best known for her single "Stand by your man, but had a total of 17 number-one hits in the United States in the years 60 and 70.

Her father died when she was eight years old, and at the age of 17, she was married and worked as a Hairdresser. Three years and three children later they separated.She would marry four more times in her life. Her third child had a serious illness, and Tammy was trying to earn some extra cash by evening to act. As a result, she was discovered and got a television appearance offered in 1965. In 1966 she moved to Nashville, where they signed a record deal.

In 1968 and 1969 Tammy had five number-1-hits in the US: "Take Me to Your World," "D-I-V-O-R-C-E," "Stand By Your Man" (all three 1968), "Singing My Song" and "The Ways to Love a Man" (both 1969).

In 1968 she began a relationship with the older George Jones, one of the biggest drinkers in the country music-environment and youthIdol of Tammy. They married a year later, and from 1971 they took a number of popular duets on "Take Me", the first of which was. However, their marriage was not about roses, and they divorced in 1975.They remained still occasionally record songs together in the 20 years that followed.

Tammy also had hits in those years, and, although sporadischer, also in the 80 's. In 1978 , she was kidnapped and attacked by a masked man who was never identified , even though it looked like Tammy knew his identity . Also in 1988 she went bankrupt.

In 1992 , she recorded a track with the house-act The KLF, entitled Justified and Ancient, what would be one of her greatest successes. Despite her delicate health, she wanted to continue touring, at all costs. To avoid the pain she began large amounts of prescription painkillers and other medication to swallow. In the end, Tammy still found found in her house. Medical complications in combination with overdose on medication were her become fatal.
