The Joy Formidable is a three piece band from the North of Wales, which nowadays has London as a base. Singer/guitarist Ritzy Bryan and bassist Rhydian Dafydd were previously a member of the four-piece new wave/post-punk band Sidecar Kisses "until it ceased to exist. They went from 2007 as band, initially with drummer Justin Stahley but nowadays with Matt Thomas. Bryan and Dafydd together form a set.
Their debut single "Austere" was released in August 2008; the second single "Cradle" in February 2009. The debut album "A Balloon Called Moaning" was released on 19 January 2009 via Pure Groove Records and as a free download on NME.com.
The Joy Formidable formed the for bands such as Editors, Passion Pit and The Temper Trap. They also have a single released only to download was: "Greyhounds In The Slips" (with Paul Draper), and the end of november 2009 a live album entitled "First You Have To Get Mad".
