Caribou, formely the artist known as Manitoba (change due to legal issues), seems to always produce an intriguing album. There are other artists that create a similar sound or produce in the same manner, but none of them are able to bring that bright, uplifting mood to their work that Caribou makes his living off of. The Milk of Human Kindness is another great example of this as he melts the borders between krautrock, folktronica, psychedelia, post-rock, and always light-heartedly and with a sense of humor. It sounds a great deal like his previous album Up in Flames (which was under the Manitoba moniker, but seems to fall just a little bit short. This record is missing the stand-out singles that the last one had, and seems to linger at moments and lose its audience’s attention. It’s definitely not bad by any means, but for Caribou, it may be a very small step backwards. Mpardaiolo
