  • Atom Willard – Drums (he left the band in 2007 to deal with his new band: Angels & Airwaves)

Genesis[Edit]Edit

The idea to start your own band came in 1983. After Greg and Dexter had been refused access to a Social Distortion concert, they got the idea to start their own band.Dexter for a while played guitar and Greg soon bought a (cheap) bass guitar. A few days later did yet another friend of them. Namely James Frederick Lilja, who for years played the drums. The band was named ' The Clowns of Death ', and the three boys took the whole thing very seriously.

The Line Up was when:

  • Dexter Holland: Vocals, Guitar
  • Greg Kriesel: Bass
  • James Frederick Lilja – Drums

After a few weeks they had some brutal hard rock songs written, and they gave a gig for 50 people in a local youth centre. That was the first and last time she performed with the band, because the drummer kept them on.

Greg and Dexter, however, wanted to continue, and along with Doug Thompson as a singer, and Jim Benton as a drummer (which they found through a newspaper ad) they formed a new rock band called "Manic Subsidal".

The new Line Up was:

  • Doug Thompson: Vocals
  • Dexter Holland: guitar, Supporting vocals
  • Greg Kriesel: Bass
  • Jim Benton – Drums

Manic Subsidal gave after just a few weeks local performances. Singer Doug Thompson flew out at the end of 1985 and was replaced by drummer Jim Benton James Frederick Lilja (the drummer of the band The Clowns Of The Death) and they could very good guitarist "Noodles", which most scorched solos from his hand could shake, persuade to join in.

So there was yet another new Line Up:

  • Dexter Holland: Vocals, Guitar
  • Noodles Wasserman: Guitar, Supporting Vocals
  • Greg Kriesel: Bass
  • James Frederick Lilja – Drums

The first songs they wrote were called: ' Very Sarcastic ' and ' Sorority Bitch '. The first number (and only number) that they with Manic Subsidal in the studio recordings was called Hopeless. That was for a compilation cd (We Got Power: Party Animal).

Then in 1986 the name of the Group was changed to The Offspring, that means: "the descendants".

The Offspring[Edit]Edit

The Group was fairly popular in southern California and in 1987 appeared the single ' I'll Be Waiting ' on Black Records, their own label. In July of that year replaces Ron Welty, who was only 16 years old, drummer James Frederick Lilja.

This was ultimately the decisive Line Up:

  • Dexter Holland: Vocals, Guitar
  • Noodles Wasserman: Guitar
  • Greg Kriesel: Bass, Supporting vocals
  • Ron Welty – Drums

They took already a quick demo on with their new drummer and sent that to some record companies. In March 1989, the foursome with producer Thom Wilson, who collaborated with, among others, Iggy Pop, a first true debut album on. This album was sold almost exclusively in the Californian punk environment. In 1991 they recorded a single ' Baghdad ' on at the same record company (Nemesis Records). This single did not do well, and The Offspring lost the contract.

In mid 1992 , the Group encountered a record deal with Epitaph where they wanted. They tried it with their demo, and they got the contract immediately. And later that year at that independent label of ex-Bad Religion Brett Gurewitz, their second album called ' Ignition '. This album was not a success. But was nevertheless sold 400,000 times and was an ' underground ' hit.

Breakthrough[Edit]Edit

The real worldwide breakthrough of The Offspring is coming in February 1994 when the single ' Come Out and Play ', from their third album called ' Smash ', thanks to MTV a worldwide hit is. The sequel ' Self Esteem ' was also a very great success. And also the less big hit "Gotta Get Away" did well. There are now a small 15 million CDs of ' Smash ' sold. The youth throws itself massively on the complex-free music punk with ska and rock elements and the sing-along texts of the group. By the success of Smash was also "Ignition" sold anymore. The success is further set with a cover of "Smash It Up" by The Damned, for the soundtrack of ' Batman Forever '.

In the year 1995 is also their first album again on Nitro Records, Dexter's record label. In 1996 signs a contract with Columbia Records after arguing with Offspring Epitaph. Their next album "Ixnay On the Hombre" comes out on 4 February 1997. That album was not such a success. Later that year start Dexter and Jello Biafra their own Fund, FSU.

In October 1998 the band released their fifth album called "Americana" with the hits "Pretty Fly" (which comes at number 1 in the Top 40), "Why Don't You Get a Job", "The Kids Aren't Allright" and "She's Got Issues".The album was almost as much a great success as a Smash. Also bring them their first home video "Americana" out. That summer they take the numbers ' Beheaded ' and ' I wanna be sedated "(for the griezelcomedie" Idle hands ", in the spring of 1999) also The band appears again. in that film as a band at a high school dance. In the film, Dexter killed on stage.

After that, they went on tour. They were, among other things, on the festivals Rockfest ' 99 and Woodstock ' 99. The band will also get an MTV award for best rock band.

Download[Edit]Edit

In 2000 , the group released the album ' Conspiracy of One ' even before the release completely free offer on its website. However, that is not to the liking of record company Sony who threaten with a lawsuit. The Offspring realizes that a process can slow down the release with two years and decision by way of a compromise, only the single ' Original Prankster ' on the internet. However, it takes not long before the whole album is illegal to download. A development which the Group had predicted in advance. For the release of 14 november is the album so all download what does not benefit sales. The second single they release is: ' Want You Bad ' lay in stores on 13 March. Further they later that year still ' Million Miles Away ' and they are since then on the Conspiracy has been promoting tour. Also they launched their second home video "Huck It" in which once again to see his spectacular stunts with the background music. The band was In may 2001 on Pinkpop 2001. "Defy You" was recorded for the soundtrack to the film "Orange County".

After a few months it was decided to plunge back into the studio. But drummer Ron Welty steps out of the band and goes with his own project further.

The Offspring were searching for a new drummer, but there were no so fast so they took for the new cd: a session drummer Josh Freese drummed at among other things, that A Perfect Circle and The Vandals.

The new album came out on 1 december 2003 and is called ' Splinter '. The first single was: ' Hit That '. Adam "Atom" Willard went on tour drumming and is the drummer of the band become fixed. The second single was (Can't Get My) Head Around You. After that world tour they went on tour with the Warped Tour in America. On 7 June, a number that actually would be a bonus track of the album Ignition out on Punk-O-Rama 10. That song is called "Mission From God".

Later they released a long-awaited Greatest Hits album with 2 new songs: ' Next To You ' (a cover of The Police) and the single ' Can't Repeat '.

Atom Willard leaves the band In July 2007 in order to focus on his band Angels & Airwaves. He is replaced by Pete Parada.

In June 2008 the album Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace from. The first single from the album will be the number Hammerhead . By Hammerhead and Half-Truism, that also will be on the album, circulating for since February 2008 live versions on the internet.
