The Rubettes were a British glam rock teeny bopper pop group who in later years they played country music. Their first hit was their biggest immediately: "Sugar baby love", a number one hit in the summer of 1974. They performed in teddy pants, oversized jackets and caps, all in white and pastel colours.

Group Composition[Edit][]
The Group was brought together in 1973 by the producer duo Bickerton-Waddington. This duo in the 1960s had already worked with ex-Beatle Pete Best and ran to peddling in 1973 with various Doo-Wop-compositions. Studio musicians who assisted Barry Blue turned out to be the best ones to perform the songs.
The members were:
- Paul da Vinci (real name: Paul Prewer)- vocals, famous for his falsetto. He left before his Sung "Sugar baby love" was a hit for a solo career and returned in the 1990s will be back in a by Bill Hurd Rubettes again set up. The Rubettes version of Alan Williams with John Richardson and Mick Clarke in the ranks, however, even if operated under that name. Logical consequence was a lawsuit.

- Tony Thorpe - tenor voice
- Bill Hurd - keyboards, backing vocals
- Mick Clarke - bass, backing vocals
- John Richardson - drums, bass voice
- Pete Arnesen (real name: Hans-Peter Arnesen)-piano (departed on 23 november 1974).
The group existed until in 1979; Alan Williams then went solo on. The group came together In 1983 because the gouwe ouwecircuit demand for performances of the original Rubettes. After violent quarrels in 1998 a British judge had to decide who had the most right on the group name. There came a compromise on which the gamecocks on had to: presently there is a "The Rubettes feat. Alan Williams "and a" The Rubettes feat.Bill Hurd ".
Music[Edit][]
Of the first three lp's "Wear its ' at", "We can do it" and "Rubettes" cover versions of songs were hits for other artists from the Bickerton-Waddington-stable: "Way back in the fifties" for formerMovesinger Carl Waynein July 1975, "Don't do it baby" for Mac & Katie Kissoon in May 1975 and "I'm just dreaming" in February 1976 for the same duo.
Beginning in 1976, it was decided by sound to change after the disappointing success of "Little darling". "You're the reason why" and further singles and LPs were produced by Alan Blakely (ex-member of The Tremeloes).
