The Wall is a 1979 album by the British rock band Pink Floyd. The Wall is the best selling double album of all timewith a worldwide sales of 30 million copies.

The album is a rock opera. Live performances were grand scale with comprehensive theatrical effects. The rock opera is built around the character Pink and largely based on Waters ' personal life. Pink struggles from early on with life. The loss of his father in a war ("Another Brick in the Wall (Part 1)"), abuse by teachers ("The Happiest Days of Our Lives"), education through an overprotective mother ("Mother"), and leaving by his wife ("Don't Leave Me Now"). All this contributed to Pink's mental isolation from society, figuratively to be addressed as "The Wall".

The title was inspired by an incident which took place during the In the fleshtour to promote the album Animals in 1977. Roger Waters spat in the face of a fan. While offering his apologies to the public, he said that he wanted a wall between him and the audience stood. During live performances of the album was also actually use a cardboard wall between the audience and the band.

The Wall is also the title of a music Alan Parker's 1982 film, based on the music of this album.

In 2009, Roger Waters announced that he is going to make a world tour, to The Wall to perform live. The tour started In the autumn in the US and Canada. He crossed the ocean in early 2011 for a series of concerts in Europe. Netherlands has been done on 8, 9 and 11 april, in the Gelredome (Arnhem). In 2013 he again gave a series of shows with The Wall, which was done to Netherlands again, this time in the Amsterdam ArenA.

The single "Another Brick in the Wall part 2"is seen years later still as classic.

The album

The album was received by fans and critics as one of Pink Floyds best albums (along with The Dark Side of The Moon and Wish You Were Here). The album is known as a rock-classic and the songs have inspired many contemporary rock musicians.
