After this adds keyboard player Karl Wallinger joined the Group and one goes on tour. In June 1984 the second plate appears A Pagan Place containing the single The Big Music. The music of The waterboys from this period was also The Big Music called just like the music of, among others, The Alarm and Big Country. In 1985, the third albumThis Is The Sea with the best known song by the band, The Whole Of The Moon. To this plate also works for the first time Fiddler Steve Wickham , he would remain a member.

After the release of This Is The Sea, Wallinger and Wilkinson will change much leave and Mike Scott moved to Dublin. He is increasingly affected by Irish folk music, gospeland country and that can be heard on fisherman's Blues from 1988. The next album Room To Roam (1990) is even more Irish tinted. After leaving Room To Roam first Wickham and Thistlethwaite later the band and Scott makes the following waterboys album with session musicians. The result, Dream Harder appears in 1993 and is more rock-focused.

Mike Scott decision than on the solo path and The waterboys are dissolved. After two plates retrieves Scott again in 2000 the group name for the album A Rock In The Weary Land on which also participate, Steve Wickham and Thistlethwaite Wilkinson once old-timers will finally. The Group continues to tour and record regularly brings out since then.
