Artist: Shonen Knife
Album: The Birds and the B-Sides
Appears On (Mixes): Past The Barber and Gymnasium
Song Notes: This appeared on The Birds and the B-Sides, the B-sides and rarities compilation put out by Virgin (against Naoko Yamano's will, actually; she doesn't like this album and didn't want it to be released in this form. Presumably the lack of co-operation on the part of the band explains the utterly insipid liner notes.) and was recorded for a Carpenters tribute album. I think this is the perfect arrangement of this song—perhaps even more so than The Carpenters' version. The guitar riff that plays at the beginning is actually taken from Japanese subway chimes; that's the melody the chimes play to warn people that the doors are closing. - Rev. Syung Myung Me
