Una furtiva lagrima (A secret tear) is an aria from Donizetti's opera L'elisir d'amore. The aria is sung by Nemorino (tenor) when he notices that the love potion he bought to win the heart of Adina, ' works '.

Nemorino is in love with Adina, but she is not interested in a relationship with an innocent, quiet man. To win her heart, Nemorino buys a ' love potion ' of all the money that he owns. This ' love potion ' is actually cheap red wine, sold by a quack. But when he sees Adina weeping, he knows that he has won her love and that the ' Elixir ' has worked.

Libretto[Edit]Edit

Italian Dutch Translation

Una furtiva lagrima negli occhi suoi spuntò: Quelle festose giovani invidiar sembrò. Not to mention that Che più io vò? Not to mention that Che più io vò? M'ama! Sì, m'ama, lo vedo. Lo vedo. Un solo istante i ditanti del suo bel cor sentir! I miei confondere sospir, per poco a ' suoi sospir! I ditanti, i ditanti sentir, confondere i miei coi suoi sospir... Cielo! Sì, può morir! Di più non chiedo, non chiedo. Ah, cielo! Sì, può! Sì, può morir! Di più non chiedo, non chiedo. Sì, può morir! Sì, può morir d'amor.

A secret tear appeared in her eyes: the festive youth seem to me to envy. What would I possibly want me even more? What would I possibly want me even more? She loves me! Yes, she loves me, I see it. I see it. To hear its quite awhile the battles of her heart! To almost my sighs to be confused with those of her! The battles, the battles of her heart to hear, to my sighs to be confused with those of her ... Heaven! Yes, I could die! I ask nothing more, nothing. Oh, heaven! Yes, I can, I could die! I ask nothing more, nothing. Yes, I could die! Yes, I could die of love.
