Vanessa Lee Carlton (Milford16 August 1980) is an American singer-songwriter and pianist. With the worldwide hit A Thousand Miles in 2002 she got name recognition.

Vanessa Carlton was in place Milford born on 16 August 1980. As a daughter of Ed Carlton, consultant in aviation, and Heidi Lee Carlton, pianist and music teacher[1], she is both half-Scandinavian and half-Russian origin[2]. Carlton has a younger sister, Gwen, and a younger brother, Edmund.

After the release of her third album some four years remained quiet around Vanessa Carlton. They needed time to come to their senses after years of sprint which Carlton from her discovery in her teens had deployed. [14Confused by all sorts of decisions that it had taken, and disappointed in various ways, she began studying a variety of music: fromclassical music to reggae; just to observe and pay attention to it. Carlton had the suspicion that her next project a more instrumental character was going to get. A visit to England, however, stimulated her to write a personal lyrics, with which the song London was born. [14it turned out to be a first step of her new album that Rabbits on the Runwould come to be called. In New York she continued writing songs, which they themselves primarily was inspired by two books, namely Watership Down by Richard Adams andA Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawkingphysics. [14including Carousel, respectively note the only single from the band's fourth Studio album, and Tall Tales for Spring are these inspirations can be found. During the writing process more and more for what sound her eyes got Carlton new songs had to go get it. They enlisted the help of Steve Osborne (producer of, among others, ElbowDoves and KT Tunstall). With him she added new characteristics to its music, such as a children's choir that the songs with a vocal background, and an analog recording technique that inflicts the music a classic tone. On 26 July 2011 was Carl ton Rabbits on the Run (also foreign to Watership Down) released under the record label Razor & Tie. It consists of ten songs and is also available on LP. Further brought Carlton on november 21, 2011 a ep titled Hear The Bells, which is an acoustic version of the song that also part of Rabbits on the Run. In addition, the ep to hear two Christmas songs as well as her hit A Thousand Miles, but then on acoustic mode.
