In 1961 joined Wayne Fontana to its first pop group, The Jets. In 1963 he formed together with Bob Lang, Ric Rothwell, and Eric Stewart the Group Wayne Fontana andThe Mindbenders. The plates of the Group were released on the label , Fontana Records. The stage name Wayne Fontana has nothing to do. He called himself to thedrummer D.J. Fontana, Elvis Presley's. Wayne Fontana was the lead singer of the Group and also played tambourine.
Of the first four plates that the released group were two small hits: Hello Josephine with a 46th and Stop Look and Listen with a 37th place in the UK Singles Chart. The fifth plate, try humming "-the ' song ' Um, Um, Um, Um, Um, Um, released in October 1964, became the big break. It came down to the fifth place. A tour of England with Brenda Lee attracted a lot of public.
The next record, The Game of Love, released in January 1965, was the biggest success for the group. It reached number two in the UK Singles Chart, and even in the United States in april 1965 the first place in theBillboard Hot 100. The group toured the US; Although initially there were problems with obtaining the necessary visa, this tour was also a success.
The two following plates, it's Just a Little Bit Too Late and She Needs Love, had disappointing results. There were tensions in the Group and Wayne Fontana during a concert at the end of 1965 ran suddenly gone.Eric Stewart took over the vocals and the gig was still successful.
Fontana and The Mindbenders went their separate ways, although they both remained at Fontana Records. The Mindbenders had shortly after the break their biggest hit with A Groovy Kind of Love; the solo career of Wayne Fontana came more difficult. His biggest success was Pamela Pamela, that early 1967 in Britain reached the 11th place.
Fontana worked with a changing company musicians. Also changed the name of his backing group quite often: The Opposition, The Mindbenders (of course only after the original Mindbenders were disbanded) Wayne Fontana and The Mindbenders, The New Band. Since the 1970s he limited the nostalgia circuit. A regular drive in which it occurs, the Solid Silver Sixties Show.
In the early years of the 21st century he came a few times negatively in the news. In 2005, its bankruptcy proceedings, but he knew it with successful challenge. In 2006, he refused to pay a parking fine and the conflict that ran so high that he fired a bailiff 's car. He appeared in court dressed as Lady Justice with a sword, scales, a Crown, a tunica and sunglasses (Justice is blind). In november 2007 he was sentenced to a prison sentence of 11 months, but he came right away free because he had already served that term, as psychiatric patient forced included.
After his release he settled in Spain.
Was Fontana In March 2011 at the point of action in his native city of Manchester when the police came to arrest him because he had not paid a speed penalty. This time he didn't have to pay the fine. He had the fine incurred during a previous visit to England and one had neglected the order for payment by sending it to Spain. Fontana knew not that he had to pay something.
