Artist: bis

Album: Random" (Gary Numan tribute album)

Appears On (Mixes): Past The Barber and Gymnasium

Song Notes: Oddly enough, bis also covered a The Smiths song ("The Boy With The Thorn In His Side"), but this is their cover of the far superior Tubeway Army song "We Are So Fragile". I'd been listening to this song for a while, even before I got into Gary Numan, and when I finally did, I was completely floored that the original of this song was a B-Side. It's one of my favorite Tubeway Army songs, actually, and one I'd like to cover. (Replicas, particularly the expanded CD edition with this song on it, is my favorite Numan release; they're all pretty good, and they all have some real gems, but Replicas has strong songs all the way through.) This showed up on a Gary Numan tribute album, along with An Pierle's cover of "Are 'Friends' Electric?" also a really great cover. bis broke up a while ago, but they've reformed under the name of Data Panik; I've got their 7" and they basically sound like Music For A Stranger World-era bis, so if you miss bis, check Data Panik out; they'll probably have an LP pretty soon. - Rev.
