Artist: Klaus Nomi

Album: Klaus Nomi

Appears On (Mixes): Past The Barber and Gymnasium

Song Notes: This is from Klaus Nomi's self titled record. Klaus Nomi was a trained operatic falsetto, who got some cult popularity in the New York music scene; he had an alien sort of persona, and while his records were pretty much in the pop dynamic, there were typically some arias on each (the second, Simple Man, had more arias than the first). Unfortunately, he died very young and mainly seems to be known as one of the first AIDS casualties, rather than as a talented and inventive singer. His most popular song was probably his cover of Lou Christie's "Lightning Strikes", but this is his cover of the Leslie Gore song. I've always liked the way he really got into the defiance of singing the line "don't say I can't play with other boys"; he really belted that one out. - Rev. Syung Myung Me
